Discover
the Wild,
the Remote,
and the Authentic.
Every day in Namibia is different. Wildlife moves, weather changes, and the ever-changing light reveals the landscape in new ways. Some of the most rewarding experiences arise unexpectedly, simply because there was time to stop, observe and notice them.
There are destinations that every visitor to Namibia hopes to experience — Etosha National Park, Sossusvlei, Spitzkoppe and the remote wilderness of Kaokoland. We visit them all. But what people often remember most are the quieter moments in between: waiting patiently beside a waterhole, watching the changing light across the dunes, sharing coffee beneath an ancient camelthorn tree, or spending longer in a place simply because it feels right.
The most memorable moments in Namibia are rarely the ones you planned.
That is why every expedition leaves room for flexibility. A promising track may lead us into a dry riverbed, a conversation may change the course of an afternoon, or a place may simply invite us to stay longer than planned. Some of the finest experiences cannot be scheduled — they have to be discovered.
One of the questions I am asked most often is:
“What exactly is a guided self-drive safari?”
The answer is surprisingly simple.
Many travellers dream of exploring Namibia independently, but feel uncertain about planning the route, driving long distances on remote gravel roads, exploring dry riverbeds, choosing the right campsites or lodges, or simply knowing how much time to allow in each place.
A guided self-drive expedition combines the freedom of independent travel with the confidence that comes from travelling with an experienced expedition leader at your side.
That means you can spend less time worrying about logistics, the route and the countless decisions that come with independent travel, leaving you free to focus on what you came to Namibia for: watching wildlife, exploring remarkable landscapes, meeting people, and simply enjoying the journey as it unfolds.
You decide how you would like to travel. Drive your own fully equipped 4×4, share the driving with me, or simply sit back and enjoy the scenery while I take the wheel. The same flexibility applies to where we stay. You may choose camping beneath Namibia’s extraordinary night skies, carefully selected lodges, or a combination of both.
Every expedition follows a carefully planned route, but no two journeys are exactly alike. The itinerary provides direction; Namibia shapes the journey.
People often ask whether I am a biologist, an expedition leader or a photographer.
The truth is that I have never really separated those things.
Studying animal behaviour taught me to observe. Leading expeditions taught me to slow down, adapt and recognise that the most memorable moments are rarely the ones you can plan. Photography became a way of preserving those moments — not because the photograph mattered most, but because the moment did.
For more than three decades I have travelled through some of the world’s most remote regions, leading expeditions and documenting wildlife, cultures and wilderness. Those years shaped the way I travel today: with curiosity, patience and an interest in understanding the connections between nature, people and place.
That is the perspective I bring to every expedition through Namibia.
If that approach resonates with you, you can read more in Why Travel With Me.
Every safari follows the same philosophy, but not every journey follows the same path.
Classic Namibia brings together many of the country’s most remarkable landscapes and wildlife regions in a carefully balanced journey. Beyond the Highlights ventures further into the remote northwest, where rough tracks, desert-adapted wildlife, wild landscapes and meaningful encounters shape a more exploratory expedition.
Both journeys can be adapted to your interests, available time and preferred way of travelling, whether you choose camping, carefully selected lodges, or a combination of both.
